Alkaline diets and your health

by Mt. Capra on March 20, 2009

With all the billions of dollars that go into nutritional research, it’s no small wonder that funding continues to be available as time and time again diets high in fruits and vegetables are shown to be the health makers. In fact, the true quest for health often comes down to simple acid-base relationships. Diets high in acid producing foods are simply not nearly as healthy as those high in alkaline producing foods.

A new study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition demonstrated that acid causing foods such as refined cereal grains and proteins can actually cause muscle wasting. On the flip side, alkaline producing foods, specifically those high in potassium, favor preservation of muscle mass in older men and women.

Better break out the bananas.
